Joe Martin Ricke (bio)

days like this
you cannot eat
not at least egg or bread or avocado

I swallowed air for an hour straight
I’m drinking the songs of birds
And teaching the deer how to sing them

slurping the mud down by the scummy pond
practicing my bear hugs till the trees
forget the fall

finding honey everylovelywhere
and making more Jackson Pollock messes
on the surface of this strangely warm December day

and after all this fasting feast
you burp thank and thanks and thank you to the wind
remembering how sweet hunger is.
