Haydn and His 104 Symphonies
Joseph Gascho (bio)

You needed to dig down
only forty feet
to hit the aquifer.
Water gushed out
all summer long,
summer after summer,
a thousand gallons a minute.
It filled the irrigation ditches
and the siphon tubes,
ran down the thirsty
half-mile rows,
grew the corn ten feet tall,
two ears to a stalk,
a hundred plus bushels to the acre.
